“Momma! You can’t go out in the cold like this”

 Holding the glass door open, Cathy pleaded from the porch of her home. The elderly woman turned and looked back up the concrete steps she had just managed… and smiled. Vicky… a curious and rambunctious 5 year old…  was watching from behind the younger woman… anxious as her grandmother navigated each of the solid steps… but relieved and excited as Ethel found safety at the end of them. The old woman saw her granddaughter through the glare of the winter sun’s reflection and offered a victorious wink.
